FAQs

What is "Fair Trade" and "Equal Exchange?"
Fair Trade is a model of doing business that provides a fair price to the farmer, including a guaranteed minimum when market prices are low, and above market premiums for quality and certified organic products.   Equal Exchange, founded in 1986, is the oldest and largest for-profit Fair Trade company in the US. Through Equal Exchanges Interfaith Store, SCPC's Mission Ministry unit offers organic, gourmet coffee, tea, cocoa and chocolate bars at cost.  These are produced by democratically run farm coops in Latin America, Africa and Asia.   Equal Exchange is committed to encouraging ecologically sustainable farming practices that help build a long-term economic base for farmers while protecting their communities, the environment and consumers from dangerous chemicals.

What do "CAM" and "WPF" stand for?

CAM, the College-Age Ministries committee is the group of individuals representing State College Presbyterian Church who resource and govern the offering of collegiate ministries.  Westminister Prebyterian Fellowship (WPF) is the student-run, PSU recognized group which is all of the collegiate programs/ministries offered through SCPC.  WPF is an umbrella organization in which Agape, Bible Studies, Sunday School, Missions and all things college-age happen at SCPC are under.

How do I Arrange a Wedding?

How do I Become a Member?

How do I Join a Choir?
To join the Chancel Choir, Voices of Praise, or one of our Special Choirs all you have to do is drop in at the next rehearsal. Or if you would like more information or want to know what to expect, contact Director of Music Ministry, Ned Wetherald for more information. We have no auditions and encourage all interested adults to join a choir.

Our Children and Youth Choirs are part of the LOGOS Ministry and have specific age or grade requirements. Children and youth must be members of the LOGOS Ministry to participate. There are times when all the children and youth are invited to participate. Contact Ned Wetherald, Director of Music Ministry for specific information.

Our Handbell Choir is open to all interested ringers – but there are only so many handbells to ring – so the number of ringers is limited.  We often have openings at the beginning of each semester. Contact Ned Wetherald, Director of Music Ministry for detailed information.

What does "Chrysalis" mean?
Scientifically speaking, chrysalis is the stage of a moth or butterfly, when enclosed in a firm case or cocoon. This is a protected stage of development.  SCPC's middle-school ministry is also called Chrysalis because this is an in-between stage of development for our children (between elementary and high school).   We hope we offer protection, encouragement and support for our youth as they grow and develop.  Chrysalis is a mid-week ministry offered on Tuesdays and is part of the LOGOS program.

If you would like to contact someone in the church office directly, please e-mail Janet Heasley or call her at 814-238-2422.
