Fair Trade

Your brew choice can make a difference.
Coffee is big businesss, but for the majority of small coffee farmers in some of the poorest countries in the world, the benefits are small. Processors, creditors, exporters, and brokers can all come in between you and the farmers before you get to sip your morning brew. Equal Exchange seeks to balance the inequities found in the conventional coffee trade. Fair trade is a delicious and powerful tool to bring about positive change in some of the poorest countries, for the people who do the work and their families.

You can purchase Equal Exchange Fair Trade Coffee, Tea and Chocolate for your home or company here at the church. Mission Ministry Unit sponsors a monthly group order (cases of 12 oz. coffee, a variety of roasts) which enables us to keep the cost down. On average, we get coffee for $6.00/bag. If you'd like to get in on this action, contact Diana Malcom via e-mail or call the church office at 814-238-2422.

You can learn more about Fair Trade and the social justice implications of these two organizations at the following web sites: www.agreatergift.org  or  www.equalexchange.org.
