Adult Education

May Adult Education Offerings
Classes meet from 10:15 -11:00 a.m.

We end this season of Adult Ed in the beautiful month of May.  We trust you have found this past year's offerings of help and interest.  The offerings in May continue to provide a variety of topics to simulate thought on our journeys of faith.

"New Challenges for the Women's Resource Center " meets on May 4.  Director Anne Ard will discuss impending major downward changes in funding for this center and others like it and the probable consequences.  These changes present significant challenges.  Also discussed will be updates for us on current programs and services that the Center provides to women in critical need.

"The Last Lecture - The Story of Randy Pausch " meets on May 4, 11 and 18.  In this three-week series we will examine along with moderator John Rodgers the inspiring story of Randy Pausch, a Carnegie Mellon professor who has recently been in the news.  Randy is terminally ill with pancreatic cancer, but has been keeping a positive attitude and has been passing his outlook on life to others.  We will watch the lecture and discuss the spiritual aspects of Randy's story.

"Toward Our New LIfe in Thailand " meets on May 11. You may know that Debbie and Lance Potter are leaving our congregation this summer for a new life and opportunities in Thailand.  The initial plan is for a two-year commitment to be assessed following this interval.  They wish to share with us what they will be doing and how our own congregation may be involved.  This should be an informative discussion.

"God's Breath in Us " will meet on May 18.  Bruce Knoll leads a discussion on this intriguing topic.  Does our breath today, one of the most fundamental acts that we take for granted, retain a connection with the Divine?  In many languages the root meaning of  "breath" and "spirit" are the same.  When God created Adam, He gave life by breathing His spirit into Adam.  Stimulating discussion will follow a 12-minute DVD on this subject.

There will be no Adult Ed offerings on May 25 due to the beginning of the single worship service schedule.  We'll begin another season of Adult Education in September.
