Registration for Fall 2008 Classes
If you know of any children ages 1-4 who would enjoy participating in our Stay and Play program beginning in Fall 2008, please contact Laura Steager, Stay and Play Director at 237-1154. We will continue to accept registrations through the summer as space is available.
Welcome to Stay and Play Where Learning is Fun!
We are a non-profit, tuition-funded preschool
and childcareprogram affiliated with the State
College Presbyterian Church (SCPC). Our program operates
from 9 am to noon, September through May for children
ages 1 to 5 years. An optional extended care program
called Adventure Afternoons, is available until 2:45
pm for 3 to 5 year olds. Early Morning Drop Off is
available beginning at 8:30 am.
Mission Statement
Stay and Play provides a preschool and childcare program where both children and adults feel loved, supported and empowered in an environment of compassion, respect and trust. Each child at Stay and Play is treated as a unique creation and is nurtured in his/her diversity and individuality.
School Staff
Stay and Play preschool was established by the State College Presbyterian Church in 1986. It is certified by the Pennsylvania State Department of Welfare and has a Keystone Star One rating. Our school's staff consists of 12 teachers, assistants, and office personnel. Our Director may be reached at 814-237-1154 from 9 am to 3:00 pm. Facility
Stay and Play Preschool occupies rooms in the educational wing of the church complex located at 132 W. Beaver Avenue and Fraser Street. The very latest educational equipment and finest supplies are available for the children. Our indoor playground and equipment are used by the children, rain or shine!
Our Program
At Stay and Play, there are opportunities for both large and small group interactions, individual choices and self directed play. Learning centers offer developmentally appropriate academic experiences. We encourage social, emotional, physical and academic growth using an exciting, hands-on, creative, child-centered curriculum including age appropriate activities in art, science, math, social studies, language arts, and play.
2007-2008 Class Descriptions
Tiny Tots! Ready, Set, Play!
Children must turn one by Sept. 1. Our Tiny Tots Room is comprised of children ages 1 - 2 years with a class size of eight led by a teacher and an assistant teacher. Days offered in this room are M-W, or T-Th with Friday as an optional third day. In this room, children will gain socialization, learn to be away from Mom/Dad, have increased self-esteem, and learn to trust another caregiver. There is an emphasis on language development and large and small motor development. The morning is filled with free play, reading stories, dancing, singing and playing in the indoor playground. Music classes are held on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Children in this class do not need to be potty trained.
Terrific Twos! ABC's, 123's and
MORE!
Children must turn two by
Sept. 1. Our Terrific
Twos Room has a class size of nine
led by a teacher and assistant teacher. Classes are available for M-W or T-Th with Fridays as an optional third day. In this room, children will learn to socialize with their peers and become more independent through free play, manipulatives, dramatic play, circle time and arts and crafts. For gross motor activities, children go to our indoor playground for a variety of activities. Music classes are held on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Children in this class do not need to be potty trained.
Thrillin' Threes! Fun and learning will be had by all!
Children must be three by
Sept. 1. Our Thrillin' Threes class is
led by a degreed
teacher and an assistant teacher
with 14 children. Days offered in this room are
M-W-F or T-Th with 5 days as a possible option.
Children will learn basic preschool skills through
a theme-based curriculum encompassing arts & crafts,
learning centers, dramatic play, circle time, cooking,
field trips and free play. For gross motor activities, children go to our indoor playground for a variety of activities. Each group will have a
30-minute music class every week and will go to our indoor
playground daily for gross motor activities. Music classes are held on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Children in
this class need to be wearing a pull-up or be potty
trained.
Fabulous Fours! 5-4-3-2-1 Blast off to preschool!
Children must turn four by Sept. 1. Our Fabulous Fours room consists of 15 children with a degreed teacher and an assistant teacher. We offer a 5-day program, or M-W-F and T-TH programs. The children will learn pre-kindergarten skills through a creative, hands-on, child-centered curriculum that includes art, science, social studies and play. Gross motor skills such as hopping, jumping, and climbing will be assessed during activities at our indoor playground. Music classes are offered on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Children in this class need to be potty trained.
Adventure Afternoons
We offer an extended care program called Adventure
Afternoons for 3-5 year
olds from 12 noon-2:45pm.
This is done on a drop-in basis (sign up at least
one day in advance) or on a permanent part-time
basis so you can use it as little or as much as
you want! Cost is $14/afternoon for the drop-in
or $12/afternoon for the permanent part-time with
a discount offered if you have two children staying
($21 for drop-in, $18 for permanent part time).
Your child can stay and eat lunch (pre-packed by
you!) and enjoy varied activities including baking,
exercising, enriching arts and crafts, music activities,
trips to the library, TUMBLEBUS and much more!
Enrollment/Registration
Although Stay and Play is based on Christian principals and children say a simple prayer before snack, registration is open to children of all races, colors, and national or ethnic origins.
Registration begins in February for the Fall enrollment. A completed registration form and a registration fee must be received in order to reserve a place for your child. the registration fee is $50 for one child and $75 for two children from the same family. The fee is nonrefundable and is not applicable toward tuition. In addition, a security deposit equal to 1/2 months tuition is due by August 1. the amount of the security deposit will be applied toward May's tuition.

Board of Directors
The Stay and Play Board of Directors is made up of church members, the Stay and Play Director, parent representatives, and Stay and Play staff representatives, and oversees the day to day running of the Stay and Play program. It is the Board's responsibility to uphold the objectives, mission, and purpose of the Stay and Play program at all times.
