The 2020 Annual Report of the Adult Education Committee ~ Jenny Van Hook, chair
As part of the Education Ministry Unit, the Adult Education Committee plans, develops, and supports educational programs each week for our adult members and guests. Our goal is to complement the Sunday morning worship experience through presentations, discussions, and studies designed to encourage a deeper understanding of Scripture and to explore issues of interest to the church as a community of faith.
This past year, our committee made the transition from in-person to virtual adult education session in March. Virtual sessions were offered either on YouTube or Zoom. Despite the new venue, those offering adult education sessions were successful in their efforts to provide meaningful presentations and lively discussions.
We were blessed with a number of wonderful presenters. They included Sara Eckert, Paul Mortimore, Mitch Kirsch, Shoba Sivaprasad Wadhia, Jason Dauer, Joseph Phillips, Daniel Falk, Paul Cho, Dean Lindsey, Peggy Lindsey, Allison Maus, Ben Wideman, Rick Bryant, Heather Bruhn, Jennifer Van Hook, Judy Vander Wilt, Laura Robinson, Emily Robinson, Roger Finke, Ned Wetherald, and Mike Ozaki. We apologize to anyone whose name we missed, and we thank all presenters and participants in adult education for sharing their expertise, time, experiences, understanding, faith and questions.
Our committee is blessed with dedicated members who bring a tremendous amount of wisdom and a variety of perspectives to our discussions. Joseph Phillips continues to serve as our secretary and communications liaison. Our staff representative, Deannine Shipman, SCPC’s Director of Education and Programs, provides invaluable assistance through her input to the committee and communication with other members of the church staff. Other members of the committee include Rick Bryant, Kimberly Dawn Falk, Richard Page, Beth Farmer, Jane Butler, and Michelle Yarwood.
For 2021, we look forward to planning adult education offerings and hopefully getting back together in person soon. We are blessed to be part of a community rich in educational resources, and we hope to provide opportunities for even greater interaction as we worship, serve, and learn together.
