Advent 2021 ~ The Light that Shines in the Darkness
Our theme for the Advent Season (beginning on November 28) this year is "The Light that Shines in the Darkness." It's a reminder to us that even in the darkest days, we can look to our Savior and with joy and anticipation celebrate his coming. Each week as we light the Advent candles, we know that the day of his arrival draws nearer. Come and worship with us throughout this season of hope.

How has your faith comforted you through grief? What hope does the season of Advent bring you? We look forward to hearing your experiences of faith and thoughtful reflections throughout the season. If you want to be subscribed to the email list to receive these daily devotionals or would like to contribute to the project please reach out to Allison Maus or Mary Jane Kistler for more information.

Adult Education in Advent
November 28, 2021 ~ The Great O Antiphons
You may not know what the "O Antiphons" are, but you probably know the Advent hymn "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" which draws its text from the Antiphons. They likely date to 6th century Italy and the rich texts use seven Biblical names for Jesus. Ned Wetherald will have us listening, studying, and singing!
December 5, 2021 ~ Images of the Annunciation and Christ's Incarnation
Continuing in our Advent series, Heather Bruhn will lead us through a discussion of a very common motif in the Medieval and Renaissance eras: the Annunciation and Incarnation. How were these events depicted? Why were they so emphasized? Learn more in this session.
December 12, 2021 ~ How Your Giving Impacts the Community
On December 12, join the Social Justice and Mission Team for an overview of how our church congregation has been giving to organizations throughout 2021. Committee members will share how our financial gifts have been distributed, and you can learn, discuss and personally reflect on opportunities for service at the church and in Centre County.
December 19, 2021 ~ Advent Stories and Imagery with Allison
In this discussion-based Adult Ed session, we will take a look at the Bible passages around the story of Christ's birth and discuss how art helps us interpret the miracle and personhood of God with us. We will ask why we always picture certain parts of the story in particular ways and use our imaginations to add nuance and depth to our current understanding.
Advent Organ Recitals
We are delighted to present our Advent Organ Recital Series again this year. The idea is to provide an opportunity to get away from the “busy-ness” of the season and listen to some beautiful organ music and afterwards share a simple fellowship lunch with homemade soup. The recitals are about 30 minutes and present a variety of organ music by several area organists. They are scheduled for 12:15 pm on Wednesdays, to give our Stay and Play parents time to pick up and clear the parking lot.

St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 208 W. Foster Avenue, will be hosting the Blue Christmas service this year on Tuesday, December 21 at 7:00 PM. The Blue Christmas service honors grief and loss during the holiday season. COVID mitigation measures will be in place. There will be no reception this year.
