Director of Family Ministries Position Description


STATE COLLEGE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
 
STATE COLLEGE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH is searching for a Director of Family Ministries. The purpose of this position is to offer engaging programming that assists children, youth and their families in finding community, deepening their faith, and making a difference in their community. This is a ¾ time full year program staff position (exempt).
 
RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXAMPLES OF WORK: The following are the principal, but not exclusive, responsibilities and examples of work for this position.

  1. Sunday Ministry Programs
    1. Deliver the Children’s Message during Sunday Worship.
    2. Identify and prepare curriculum for Sunday children and youth programming, which includes Children, Worship and Song (for children during the service), Pathways (for children after the service), and Oasis (for youth after the service).
    3. Recruit, train, coordinate, and support volunteers for Sunday children’s and youth programming
  2. Weeknight Programs
    1. Serve as lead staff member for weeknight children, youth, and family ministries, which includes LOGOS (for children and middle school youth) and FISH (for high school youth).
    2. Identify and prepare curriculum in partnership with volunteer leaders for weeknight children and youth programming.
    3. Recruit, train, coordinate and support parent and volunteer involvement.
    4. Teach or lead areas of the LOGOS and FISH programs as needed.
    5. Lead and facilitate LOGOS coordinator meetings and volunteer trainings.
  3. Develop and Sustain Family Ministries
    1. Provide leadership and visioning in identifying and adopting models for strengthening and growing family ministry participation.
    2. In coordination with pastoral staff, provide pastoral care to children/youth and their families in difficult times and in times of celebration.
    3. Strengthen and grow family ministries at SCPC to equip and engage parents as primary disciplers of their children.
    4. Organize and lead youth and family-oriented retreats, mission trips, and other special events.
  4. Administration and Communication
    1. Identify, recruit, equip, and appreciate volunteers adult leaders to support children’s and youth ministry, including ensuring leaders and mentors receive Safe Church Training
    2. Provide staff support to and attend meetings of relevant church committees as needed
    3. Ensure Safe Church Training policies and materials are kept up-to-date
    4. Lead regular Safe Church Training sessions
    5. Develop supportive relationships and maintain open communication with children, youth, parents, and families.
    6. Provide administrative leadership for children, youth, and family programming through meetings, emails, and other communication channels such as the church website, church emails, bulletins, and social media.
  5. Other
    1. Partner with Pastoral Staff to develop and provide leadership for the youth confirmation program (Explore Program)
    2. Supervise the Childcare Coordinator and Kitchen Coordinators
    3. Work closely with other staff to ensure coordination and cohesion across ministries.
    4. Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies for all family ministries programming.
 
ACCOUNTABILITY:  The Director of Family Ministries is hired by the Session, and works under the direct supervision of the Senior Pastor, and is accountable to Session through the Personnel Committee. The Personnel Committee or a designated representative will meet with the Director of Family Ministries at least once per year for a performance and salary review.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A commitment to Christianity, the reformed tradition, and deepening of one’s faith
  • Demonstrated effectiveness with children, youth, and adult programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and conflict management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, train, and manage volunteers
  • A high level of personal integrity.
  • An appreciation for diversity and inclusivity
  • Demonstrated ability to work creatively with a wide range of volunteers. 
  • Employment will be pending Safe Church Training completion as well as required background checks.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field and/or professional certification in youth/children work or Pastoral ministry.
  • Three or more years of experience directing educational programs within a church setting.
  • Christian Educator certification within the Presbyterian Church is desirable, or an equivalent program in continuing education.
 
SALARY: $45,000-$55,000 based on training and experience. Position includes paid time off.

    Hall from 9:00 - 11:00 am)
