Order and Ardor, Presbyterians in America, on YouTube
Part One: The Early Years 1640-1706 In this first of three classes, Pastor Emeritus Chuck Curley will focus on the background of the journey of Presbyterians to this country in the colonial period. The story of Presbyterian immigration will begin with the “from the bottom up” Reformation in Scotland, the creation of the Westminster Confession, and the founding of the first American Presbytery. |

Part Two: Schism and Revival 1706-1758 In the second of three classes, Pastor Emeritus Chuck Curley will examine how the Great Awakening brought on our first “identity crisis:” Is it possible to be both Presbyterian and Evangelical? The conflict between Order and Ardor split the church apart: Old Side/New Side. |

Part Three: A Presbyterian Rebellion? 1717-1789 In the third of three classes, Pastor Emeritus Chuck Curley will look at the impact of Scots-Irish Presbyterians on the American Colonies in the middle years of the eighteenth century. The class has two, interconnected, parts: 1. The Scots-Irish and the First Frontier, and 2. The American War for Independence – A Presbyterian Rebellion? |
Advent ~ Wake, Awake! The King of Chorales - Sunday, December 6, 2020 - Second Sunday of Advent
Say “Wake, Awake” to many organists and church musicians and they will immediately begin playing one version of the German Chorale “Wachet Auf” in their head. The hymn was written in 1599 and has been in hymnals ever since. Buxtehude, Bach, Mendelsohn, Reger, and Distler loved the tune and used in in their compositions. We’ll listen to some compositions using the hymn and talk about it’s history and meaning. |

Unnamed Women in the Bible ~ with Allison Maus
What’s in a name? Many Biblical characters aren’t given names in our Bible’s text. Yet their stories are included and their roles are important to how we might understand God, Scripture, and ourselves. Join Allison for a closer look at a couple of stories specifically of unnamed women as to ask questions and seek to apply the text. The first two-week series was for September 20th and 27th.
The Advent Edition (November 29) explores the role of women in the Christmas story. We'll look closely at the text and use our tools of sacred imagination to help us reflect on parts of the story that highlight some of the prominent women that surrounded the infant Jesus.
