NORMAL Sunday Morning Programs - All on Hold During COVID
Christian Education for FALL will look a little different this year!
First of all, since we are not meeting in person yet, we will continue to send Sunday School curriculum home for Preschool and Elementary age children and their families. Deannine Shipman will be editing these offerings and emailing them to parents. Sometimes this will be ideas for family discussion, readings, and devotions, while other times there might be some videos (You Tube) ! We hope that some of our families might be willing to help make some of these videos and share them! Middle School youth is invited to participate with the plans that Diana Malcom has been working on with the Chrysalis group (LOGOS). Watch for those details if you have a Middle School youth. All children and youth are welcome to participate with any of our programs! LOGOS is planning a virtual program as well this Fall, and we are working on plans for sending some fun surprises to folks and doing curbside take out meals twice a month. Our plan is to incorporate all 4 pieces of the LOGOS program in a month, somehow! We are hoping to group families up for table Zoom's and games! Go to our Mid-Week Ministries for Children and Youth pages to see the details. FISH, our Sr. High group, has also started up with very different plans, but hoping to keep our youth connected in some way! See the FISH pages for details. So as you can see, we have been working, and we are trying hard to adapt in these difficult times. Our NORMAL Programs ~
The State College Presbyterian Church wants to partner with parents to nurture your child's faith! At SCPC we have many programs for children -- for preschool ages on up. Click on the sub-menus to the right to learn more about opportunities for children. If you don't see what you are looking for, just ask! (contact Deannine Shipman, Director of Education and Program, 238-2422). Our mid-week ministries are listed on additional pages. Sunday School Classes Each Sunday we offer classes for Preschoolers through High School students. We are presently using the PCUSA curriculum "Growing in Grace & Gratitude" with Pre Schoolers, and for our children up through Grade 4. Children, youth, and teachers are always on a faith adventure as they learn about the Bible and our faith traditions in the Presbyterian Church. Together they will read Bible stories based on Scripture that reveal God's grace. For more information on our curriculum: growinggracegratitude.org Our older elementary children in 5th Grade are using the PCUSA New Testament curriculum (Covenant People). Our middle school and high school students study varied topics of faith issues, the Bible, and the Presbyterian Church. They also use PCUSA curriculum for younger youth, as well as "The Wired Word", which takes weekly current new stories, and enables the youth to discuss them from the perspective of our faith. Children must be the age of the class listed by September1st (or in that grade) to be in that class. Any questions or concerns may be addressed to Patt Campolongo (SS Superintendent), or to Deannine Shipman (Director of Education and Program). Listed below are the rooms for all of our children and youth classes. ALL are WELCOME!
Most of the Sunday School Classes start at 10:00 am and end at 11:00 am. Children who go to a program such as Creative Movement and Music, or Children and Worship (see below) are taken directly to their Sunday School classes by the teachers. Children in 3rd Grade and older should get to their classes right after worship/by 10:15 am. During our 9:00 am worship service, children ages 3 and up through older Elementary children are welcome to come forward for the children’s message. Then children, 2nd graders and below, are invited to join in their special programs. Children who go to a program such as Creative Movement and Music, or Children and Worship are taken directly to their Sunday School classes by the teachers. Children in 3rd grade and older should leave worship when it is over, and go directly to their classes. In 2nd/3rd Grade, the snack is served first during the reading of the lesson, so we encourage those children to go directly to class! Parents are to stay in the building during Sunday School and are welcome to attend Adult Education Classes at 10:15 am or visit in the Social Hall.
