Join us in the Sanctuary for worship on Sundays! If you are unable to attend in-person, you can live-stream the worship service at 9:00 am (and it will remain available to view after the service) on our YouTube channel (State College Presbyterian Church). There is a sermon, music, readings, and prayers - for those on on our email list, watch for an email on Saturday with the link. Contact Martha if you wish to be added to that list. Visit our Worship Service Videos page to view the library of past recorded and live-streamed services. ![]() Annual Generosity Campaign
This month SCPC embarks on our Annual Generosity Campaign. We are so grateful to the congregation for your generous financial support over the past year as we continue to find innovative new ways to celebrate, nurture, and serve together! As we consider generosity, we remember that it started with God. God gave! We respond to the generosity God has modeled since the beginning by offering our time, talent and resources at personally meaningful levels. Your annual financial commitments (your Estimate of Giving) account for around 80-85% of our church’s annual revenue. The Session uses this estimate to set next year’s church budget. We hope you'll join our Session and Deacons in making a financial commitment to SCPC for 2024. You can make your commitment in one of two ways:
![]() Pastor Nominating Committee September Update
PNC continues to meet on a weekly basis. The committee has developed a discernment and interview process to assess our candidates. We received an influx of PDPs (Pastor Discernment Profiles) in August and more are trickling in. We identified an initial list of first round meetings with candidates and we completed those interviews. We will evaluate those pastors to determine who we want to meet with a second time. We will continue to evaluate new PDPs as they enter our CLC portal and decide who we would like to talk with. We will keep the congregation updated through these monthly reports and during worship. We appreciate the support and prayers of Session and the congregation. Finally, I’m thankful for the diligent, open, and thoughtful work of our PNC members. – Bob Igo PNC members: Jamie Bauman, Bob Igo, Rob Leicht, Laura Millard, Jerry Sawyer, Katie Stone, and Steve Van Hook.
![]() Christmas Before Halloween!
Do you remember making Christmas Cards for our incarcerated neighbors last year? We’re doing it again, and people of all ages can participate! Too many of our incarcerated neighbors feel entirely forgotten. For many, these cards are the only mail they get the entire year and they have a huge impact. We need as many as you can make. The best cards are colorful, kind, and imperfect, so they look like they come from a real human person who cares. We sign with first names (or name and age) only. Cards have to be scanned and printed inside the prison system for distribution to each institution, so they are due at the end of October. Mark your calendar to turn yours in on Sunday, 10/29… and consider making or writing one each week. We have blank cards ready for decorating and writing in the Church office, and you’ll easily spot the Christmas-wrapped boxes for finished cards at both our Fraser St. Entrance and our parking lot entrance. Watch for a fresh idea in each weekly update email this month, and join Oasis at coffee hour on October 22 for a making party. Reed Dressler is going to keep the card corner open, so folks who attend Adult Ed can make one more before they leave for the day. More info here. ![]() Wandering Women October Hike ~ October 21
All women in the church are invited to the final Wandering Women hike for 2023 on October 21. It will be based at Linda Morrow's Arch Spring Farm (ASF) in Sinking Valley, about 25 miles SW of State College. There is an easy walk around a high field with a great view and we will follow that with a short but steep hike to the top of the natural stone bridge that is called "The Arch," for a total of about 2 miles. Dress for the weather, and consider sunscreen and/or insect repellent. As always, we will hike in light rain but will cancel if the weather is stormy. Look for any cancellation information due to weather on the SCPC Facebook page and by email. If you have questions, contact Linda at lmorrow@psu.edu or 814-880-4819. We will gather at ASF at 9:15. To carpool, meet at the church at 8:30. To drive yourself via I-99, take I-99 and exit at Tyrone, turn left and drive about 3 miles east on PA 453 toward Water Street. Turn right onto Silver Barn Rd. to cross the Little Juniata River and continue about 2 miles to the intersection of Hileman Rd. Turn left and drive another mile to the point where Hileman becomes Kettle Rd. Turn right (if you continue straight you will see the Sinking Valley Presbyterian Church. Turn around in the church parking lot.) Arch Spring Farm is 1/4 mile from the end of Hileman Rd. The address is 6548 Kettle Rd. if you want to enter that in your GPS. Via PA 45--Leave State College on West College Ave. and turn right onto Whitehall Rd. (at Harner Farm) and follow Whitehall until it ends on PA 45. Turn right on 45 toward Spruce Creek. After you cross the Little Juniata River at Spruce Creek, PA 45 takes a left to go under a railroad overpass; leave 45 at that point and continue straight along the river. (You will go under the stone RR overpass shortly after you leave PA 45.) The road by the river is about a mile and ends on Shovel Works Rd. Turn left and go 1/4 mile to PA 453, also called Birmingham Pike. Turn right and go about 1/4 mile to the intersection at the bottom of the hill. Turn left; the green sign has an arrow to the left and says "Arch Springs 2." You will pass Windy Hill Furniture and the road makes a number of turns. Just after you pass the Sinking Valley Presbyterian Church, turn left on Kettle Rd. ASF is 1/4 mile ahead at 6548 Kettle Rd. For a Wandering Women overnight on Friday, Oct. 20--Because ASF is used as a Guest House/B&B, Linda is offering an option to go out Friday evening and spend the night. There are 8 beds plus space for sleeping bags, 4.5 bathrooms and a dining table to seat 12. Let Linda know if you are interested (Lmorrow@psu.edu or 814-880-4819) so we can make plans. CROP Walk 2023
Every fall, the CROP Walk raises money for our local food bank, and for the food and hunger work of the Church World Service (the same folks who deliver the storm cleanup buckets we make to where they are needed, quickly). Watch for a signup and donation table at Coffee Hours this month, or you can sign up for SCPC’s walking team or donate online here. This year, the walk starts at Grace Lutheran Church (205 S. Garner St.). Check in and welcome is at 1:30, step-off is at 2:00. Traditionally the weather is excellent, and friendly canine members of our congregation are welcome to join the team!
