SJMT Mission Statement
Called by faith and scripture, SCPC Social Justice and Mission Team (SJMT) seeks to create opportunities for each person in our congregation to live in the words of Scripture:
Matthew 25:35-36
I was hungry and you fed me,
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink,
I was homeless and you gave me a room, I was shivering and you gave me clothes, I was sick and you stopped to visit,
I was in prison and you came to me.
Micah 6:8
He has told you, O mortal, what is good, and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God?
SJMT will organize, publicize, and conduct special mission offerings, such as One Great Hour of Sharing, the fall Peace and Global Witness offering and the Christmas Child offering.
SJMT will determine the allocation of mission funds and maintain a relationship with recipients.
We seek 100% participation across the congregation in at least one mission-related initiative per year in deed, financial support, or in prayer.
In order to accomplish this, the SJMT will provide opportunities across seasons, with a variety of ways (and intensities) of participating. We must invite members, small groups, and the
congregation at large to participate – and we must recognize and celebrate the impact of that generosity.
We recognize that there are more hurts and more harms than this congregation, alone, can fix.
We collaborate with established organizations that meet human needs at many scales, and meet each person with dignity.
We look for opportunities to work at smaller, human, scales for meaningful involvement of
individuals, and at larger scales, where we might begin to address deeper causes of more visible pain. Opportunities to join in larger efforts helps us realize we are not alone in desiring, or working for change. In all cases, we pray that our words and actions will be guided, connected, and amplified by God.
