The Session

---

The Governing Board of the State College Presbyterian Church called the Session, consists of the pastor, associate pastor, and the 22 elders in active service. Elders are elected by the congregation for a term of three years of service but are ordained for life. Session meets on the third Sunday of the month (except for July and August) and as needed for special needs. The Session is responsible for the mission and government of the church and is divided into nine ministry units/committees:

1. Building and Property Committee: Responsible for the building and property affairs of the church.
2. CAYAM (College-Age and Young Adult Ministries): Responsible for programs for College students and young adults.
3. Congregational Fellowship - Responsible for developing a caring community within the life of the congregation.  In charge of Sunday morning coffee fellowship time, and other congregational fellowship activities
4. Education Ministry Unit (EMU): Responsible for the total education program of the church. Elders are divided between subcommittees for the Children and Youth Programs, the Adult Education Committee, and the Youth Ministry Advisory Committee
5. Financial Affairs Committee: Responsible for the business and financial concerns of the church and encouraging giving throughout the congregation. Carries out the annual pledge campaign.
6. Membership Ministry Unit: Responsible for welcoming visitors and encouraging new members to join our faith community. Provide greeters at the entrance doors and the Information Desk on Sundays and holds quarterly membership opportunities .
7. Social Justice and Mission Team (formerly “Mission Ministry Unit”): Responsible for all national, world, and local mission activities.
8. Personnel Committee: Responsible for all of the personnel concerns of the church.
9. Spiritual Life Ministry (formerly “Spiritual Formation”):  A Ministry Unit added in 2008 to provide leadership and direction for the spiritual growth of our congregation.
10. Generosity:  Responsible for monitoring the ongoing needs and giving trends of the church.
11. Worship Ministry Unit: Responsible for the worship life and music ministry of the church
12. Nominating Committee: Responsible for calling members to serve as church officers.
